Kidnapped and forced to admit…she’s pregnant!

Sexy millionaire aristocrat Luke Devereaux showed up at Louisa’s office, marched her to a doctor and demanded she take a pregnancy test! Much to her complete shock and horror, it was positive!

Nearly three months before, Luke had shown Louisa a night of pleasure she could never have imagined…and which would never be repeated. But the dramatic consequences meant Luke was now demanding marriage – and his proposition came with a tantalizing promise: more nights of unbelievable pleasure…

Dear Reader,

There are a few magic moments in everyone’s life that they know they’ll remember for ever.  For me, two of my most magical moments happened in the ultrasound suite at UCH hospital in London, when my husband and I saw our two sons for the first time.

A few months ago my boys and I were looking at their yellowing ultrasound photos and I had one of those ‘What if?’ moments a writer dreams of.  What if you were having that magical ultrasound moment, meeting that precious little scrap of humanity growing inside you for the first time, and you hadn’t even realised you were pregnant?  And what if the father of your precious scrap was sitting beside you, looking handsome and devastatingly sexy, but you hardly knew him – and what you did know you didn’t like?

So I had a great starting-off point for my story, but I knew my heroine would have to be someone really special to survive the emotional rollercoaster she was going to have to ride to her happy-ever-after.  One woman instantly sprang to mind.  When I wrote my second book, The Mile-High Club, the heroine’s best friend Louisa kept butting into the story.  Flirty, funny, reckless, romantic, beautiful, and with a wicked sense of humour, Louisa was brave enough to cling on during all the swoops and bumps – and big-hearted enough to forge them into something wonderful to boot.

All that was left to do was find a hero man enough to take that wild ride with Louisa – and Luke Devereaux stepped up to the plate.  I hope you take as much pleasure in reading about how they battled their way to true love.

If you want to tell me about your magic moments, or even tell me what you think of Louisa and Luke’s story, I’d love to hear from you.  Visit my website at www.heidi-rice.com or email me on heidi@heidi-rice.com

It was mortifying!

How had Kate ended up in hotel tycoon Zack Boudreaux’s office in nothing but her underwear? Zack appeared to assume the worst and Kate could hardly blame him. But she had no clothes, passport or plane ticket home. She would have to hope Zack could help her….And he did. First with a bathrobe, and then with a job. She’d be at his beck and call as his very personal assistant…

Dear Reader,

With Mills & Boon celebrating their centenary this year, I wanted a really special love story for my first book of 2008.  While it didn’t take me quite 100 years to create Zack and Kate’s story, it seems the two of them have been waiting to have their story told for almost as long.

It all began four and a half years ago, when my best mate Catri and I were on one of our biannual road trips to America.  We were staying at the fabulous Flamingo Hotel in Vegas when I got the inspiration for Zack Boudreaux.  A gorgeous ex-gambler turned hotel tycoon, Zack was a guy who knew something was missing from his life, only he didn’t know what-and it was frustrating the hell out of him.  Unfortunately, it frustrated the hell out of me, trying to think up a heroine for Zack, so he got left to brood alone for several years.

Then last year Catri and I started planning a trip to California, and I discovered Big Sur.  Its raw, timeless, elemental beauty captivated me, and had Kate Denton popping into my head.  Smart, sassy, impulsive and fiercely independent, she was the perfect woman to captivate Zack, show him what he was missing-and then drive him nuts while he tried to grab hold of it.

After finally finishing Zack and Kate’s story, I went to Big Sur and watched the sun set over the Pacific.  It lived up to all my expectations.  I hope this story does the same for you-and helps to keep Mills & Boon’s torch burning bright into their next century.

I love to hear from readers, so if you want to chat about Big Sur, or Vegas, or even my latest book, you can contact me through my website at www.heidi-rice.com

The shop assistant and the superstar…

Mac Brody’s Hollywood life is far removed from his turbulent youth — and that’s how he likes it. The legendary bad boy refuses to be judged by Juno Delamare for declining his brother’s wedding invitation …

… and a scorching L.A. affair!

But he can’t get feisty Juno out of his head! So he goes to the wedding — to strip away her defences and her sexy bridesmaid dress. When their steamy night hits the headlines, Mac sweeps Juno away for a two-week affair … Soon Juno realizes she has more than memories to hold dear!

Dear Reader,

I love it when I’m in the process of writing a book and a secondary character yells, ‘Hey, what about me?  Don’t I deserve a story of my own?’  So I was chuffed to bits when Juno Delamare did exactly that as I was writing her best mate Daisy’s story in Hot-Shot Tycoon, Indecent Proposal.

At the time, Juno didn’t even have a second name; she was just Daisy’s cautious, earnest, tomboy friend.  Juno had been hurt badly once, and it had made her prickly and pessimistic and extremely wary of good-looking men.  But her honesty, her fortitude and her emotional integrity instantly engaged me.  And so, as Daisy’s story unfolded, Juno began to insist I find her a man of her own who could coax her out of her cocoon.

Then, lo and behold, Connor Brody-Daisy’s hero-mentioned he had a long-lost brother.  Now, while at first this seemed a remarkably lucky coincidence, I quickly realised Juno had not had a man as dangerous as Mac Brody in mind when she had asked me to find her one true love.  Would she be able to cope with this brooding Irish bad-boy-turned-Hollywood-star who had sealed off his heart at an early age and seduced women only to discard them the instant things got serious?  And then I thought, What the hell?  I’m the author here-not her.  I’ll chuck Juno in at the deep end and see if she floats.

I hope you get the same kick out of watching her-and indeed Mac-struggle to survive the emotional tidal wave that promptly knocks them both flat.  Feel free to let me know on heidi@heidi-rice.com

When she’s very, very bad…

Gina Carrington knows exactly how to have fun! But when she sleeps with her friend’s brother, the off-limits Carter, she quickly discovers she’s overstepped the mark.

…life is so much more fun!

Years later, Gina sees Carter again to prepare for her friend’s wedding, and she can’t help but wonder what the harm would be in one more night…. He’s available, gorgeous and behind that laid-back Southern charm there’s a wild side even she can’t tame! But Gina has secrets which she can’t hide forever—will their chemistry be strong enough to keep Carter by her side when her secrets come to light?

Dear Reader,

Modern Tempted is such an exciting line to write for- fresh, flirty, funny, sexy and just a little bit wicked- but even I was unprepared for how much fun I was going to have when I was invited to join forces with Aimee Carson, Kimberly Lang and Amy Andrews to create our first Modern Tempted continuity.

The process of pinging emails back and forth between Alaska, Alabama, Brisbane and London-and even spending one sunny afternoon in the Anaheim brainstorming (with Ms Andrews there in spirit) at a writers’ conference-was almost as much of a hoot as the stories we created, following four former college roomies and their rocky roads to romance (with some seriously scorching guys) during one long, hot, sensational summer!

Now, I’m not gonna lie to you, the brainstorming sessions tuned out to be somewhat more carefree than actually writing my story-especially when Carter, my tortured Southern hottie, and Gina, my reckless British bad girl, insisted on playing hard to get.  But hey, what else is new!  After all the hard work, I hope the end result is as fresh, flirty, free-spirited and generally fabulous as you, dear reader, have come to expect from the Modern Tempted experience.

I certainly think so-and that includes the other three brilliant books in The Wedding Season.

Be fabulous and enjoy!

Heidi Rice
