The Secret Next Door

Nurse Gena Satterfield knew raising her rebellious nephew, Derrick, would be tough, but moving to Gabriel’s Crossing was supposed to help ease the transition into their new reality. That was before she realized her new neighbor was Quinn Buchanon—her teenage crush, the town’s onetime star quarterback…and Derrick’s father. Her sister’s dying wish was that Gena keep this secret. Yet watching Quinn connect with the boy and penetrate his angry walls, Gena begins to see him in a whole new light. Now, torn between the truth and the promise she made, Gena has to follow her heart. And hope they can all heal together…as a family.

Dear Reader,

Some years ago, a minister of my acquaintance required post-op pain medication, a perfectly legitimate use of strong narcotics.  Unfortunately, after a time, this man became addicted to the pills.  When he could no longer get the pills, he began to use illegal drugs to ease his pain and feed the addiction that had taken hold of him.  He lost his ministry, his family and eventually his life.  No one who knew him could believe this had happened to such a good, God-fearing man.  But it did.

With Quinn Buchanon’s story, I wanted to address this real issue that is sometimes considered taboo in Christian circles.  The truth, of course, is that Christians are humans subject to the same fragilities as everyone else.  Our victory is that we have a means of escape, a Savior if we reach out to Him and ask for help.

I hope you’ve enjoyed Lone Star Dad, and if you or someone you love struggles with a drug problem, please reach out.  Hope in Jesus is waiting.

Linda Goodnight

Dear Reader,

Another brave and fearless hero.  Another smart heroine who falls hopelessly in love.  Another paranormal romance story that I couldn’t resist writing because I love to write stories I love to read.  And in doing so, I hope you, the reader, will fall in love too.  Stryke Saint-Pierre is one of Blu and Creed’s grandchildren (their story was Her Vampire Husband), and I’ve paired him with a woman so completely opposite his down-to-earth, practical werewolf self I wasn’t even sure I could find a way to make them fall in love.  Fortunately, magic sometimes happens on the page, and I promise you a happily-ever-after.

And guess what?  This story marks my fiftieth story for Harlequin!  How cool is that?  I’ve been writing for this publisher since my first fantasy that I wrote for Luna, then I tried out a few Bombshells before landing in the Harlequin Nocturne line, of which I hope to write another fifty books or more.  And it wouldn’t be possible without you, the reader, who devours all things vampire, werewolf, faery and witch.  You read the weird stuff, and I love you for that.

Happy reading!

Playing bodyguard to a vigilante librarian–excuse me, library technician–is not the career move Tony DeMonte had in mind when he came to this town. On temporary loan, the big-city cop figured he’d take it easy, maybe watch the grass grow.

Not with Jasmine Storm colliding into danger every other day. Getting mixed up with a failed drug bust is just the beginning. Now she claims there’s an intruder in her house. Which leaves Tony no choice but to…move in. Jasmine and her cat get the protection they need, and Tony and his dog get a roof over their heads.

Logan jumps at the chance to guard a beautiful woman and bring down a drug ring. After all, neither he nor Olivia are looking for forever love—just justice. But one kiss changes that as they go on the run. When taken hostage in the jungle, they must not only defeat the enemy—but also escape with their lives!

Dear Reader,

I love to travel!  I’m lucky enough to have visited the rain forest twice-once in Central America, and once in South America.  Both times, I was awed by the magnitude of the forest, and by the sheer number and variety of plants, animals and insects, all of them fascinating and not nearly as interested in me as I was in them.

I really enjoyed revisiting the forest while writing this book.  Olivia and Logan got up close and personal with the jungle, which only makes their lives even more complicated.  I hope you enjoy reading about their adventures!  I know I’d love to hear from you-feel free to email me and tell me your favorite vacation spot!

All the best!

Eleanor has worked hard to transform herself from the lonely girl she once was. Switching braces for a breathtaking smile, dowdy clothes for fabulous dresses, and heartbreak for flirty, fun-only dates, she’s now “Ella.” But one man can see the real woman beneath.

Fiercely private billionaire Jake Donner has never forgotten Eleanor, and he’s shocked to see how she’s changed. Sparks begin to fly as old memories haunt them—for the innocent attraction they once resisted is all grown up and won’t be denied again…

Dear Reader,

I’ve always loved stories where the heroine was an awkward ugly duckling who grows up to become a stunning, successful swan.  Of course-she then meets a fabulous, drop dead gorgeous man and they both live happily ever after!

That’s how this story started, with dorky Eleanor in her school uniform crystal clear in my imagination.  But then I thought-what if my hero isn’t quite so perfect?  What if he was an outcast in school, too?  And that’s how Jake was born-brilliant, geeky, reclusive Jake.

Later it became clear that Eleanor and Jake had a past-in fact, they were once best friends!  Back at school they’d believed it was just the two of them against the world.  But then something went very, very wrong…

I hope you enjoy Ella and Jake’s story, and the sparks that fly as they’re thrown together after more than a decade apart.

I love to hear from readers.  You can contact me via my website:, or email:

Be careful what you wish for!

It’s time for Lu Sheppard to get back in the game—fact. After ten years of playing mom to her younger brothers the boys have left home and she’s determined to make up for lost time! Item number one on her list? A man to have some fun with!

Rugby coach Will Scott is just what Lu needs to ease herself back into the dating game. Only in town temporarily, king of the fling…he’s perfect. But his kisses are so electric that remembering they have an expiry date is getting harder. Suddenly Lu starts wondering…maybe it is possible to have too much of a good thing!

Dear Reader,

I am so enjoying the Modern Tempted series, and I wait in eager anticipation (as I’m sure you do too) to download the new releases every month.

Rugby is a big deal in my part of the world, and we are passionate about our national team the Springboks.  I was watching a post-match interview by one of the coaches and I thought, Mmm-hmm…he’s pretty cute.  I love being a romance novelist, so admiring handsome men can be classified as research!  What if he were super-hot and an ex-bad boy of rugby made good…?  And the story started to take shape in my head.

Will comes to Durban on a three-month contract to be the caretaker coach of the city’s superstar Stingrays rugby team.  Lu, with the twin brothers she raised now at university, is at a loss about what to do now.  She wants to revive her flagging career, and by meeting Will manages to land a job as the Stingrays’ press photographer.  Will, challenged by his best friend Kelby to do something other than bundle a woman into bed and then walk, thinks that Lu would be goof dun to hang with, to help him pass the time in a foreign city.  Lu, who has been dared by the twins to have some fun, thinks that Will would be the perfect companion to ease her into a new life without the daily responsibility and company of her brothers.

They both think that they can ignore the fact that their hair almost catches on fire from the sexual heat they generate … ha-ha-ha!

As per usual, I had the best fun writing this book, and nothing makes me happier than to guide two sexy, headstrong people to their happy-ever-after.  Enjoy!

With my very warmest wishes

Joss xxx
